History of Miami Springs
Located just north of Coral Gables in Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami Springs encompasses just three square miles and had a population of 13,859 people as of the 2020 Census.
Miami Springs was founded by aviation pioneer, inventor, and land developer Glenn H. Curtiss in 1926. Originally named Country Club Estates, the city was a planned community. Much like neighboring Coral Gables, Miami Springs was a “themed” community in terms of the architectural style used in original buildings and structures. The Pueblo Revival style of architecture, developed in the southwest using elements of Pueblo architecture, was chosen as the “theme” for Miami Springs; however, you will also find Mission style architecture among the historic buildings in Miami Springs. The historic Hotel Country Club is an excellent example of the city’s intended theme as it was designed to resemble a Pueblo village. Just prior to incorporation, the city’s name was changed to Miami Springs to give homage to a nearby spring that provided fresh water to the City of Miami for decades. With Miami International Airport bordering the city, Miami Springs grew to become a desirable place to live for those involved in the airline industry.
Miami Springs Today
While Miami-Dade County exploded in growth and population throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Miami Springs remained a relatively isolated “bedroom community.” Today, the City of Miami Springs retains its small-town feel, offering residents and visitors alike plenty of family-oriented amenities, including parks, tennis courts, and a golf course as well as a city swimming pool and a new community center and theater.
With two-thirds of the residents claiming Spanish as their first language and almost half of the residents having been born outside of the United States, Miami Springs also prides itself on being a diverse and welcoming community.
Miami Springs is honored to have been named a “Preserve America Community” by former First Lady Laura Bush in 2008.
Stivers Law in the Miami Springs Community
The Miami Springs, Florida estate planning attorneys at Stivers Law are dedicated to meeting the estate planning needs of our friends and neighbors throughout the area. Because we understand the benefit of creating lifelong relationships with our estate planning clients, we believe in working one on one with each client to build that lasting partnership. As your life evolves, we are committed to ensuring that your estate plan evolves along with it.
The key to a successful estate plan is making sure it always reflects your current needs and goals. The plan you create when you are young, single, and just beginning your career will not be sufficient to meet your needs later in life when you have a family and a larger estate to consider. Routine reviews and revisions are crucial to ensure that your estate plan reflects your life as it is now, not as it was several years ago. Your initial estate plan, for example, may be focused entirely on ensuring that, should something happen to you, you don’t leave behind an intestate estate. Consequently, a Last Will and Testament may be all you need in the beginning. Marriage, children, and a growing estate, however, call for a more complex estate plan. A trust may be needed to protect your minor child’s inheritance, for instance, as well as serve as an incapacity planning tool.
Eventually, you may also decide to incorporate additional components into your comprehensive estate plan, such as asset protection, probate avoidance, and business succession planning. If you have a child with special needs, special needs planning will be a critical addition to your estate plan. As you contemplate retirement, Medicaid planning should be added to your plan and your retirement plan merged with your estate plan to ensure harmony between the plans. To guarantee that your wishes are honored at the end of your life, advanced directives should be executed, and funeral and burial planning incorporated into your estate plan.
Our hope at Stivers Law is that we can be there with you as you pass through the various phases of your life to help ensure that your estate plan protects you, your assets, and your loved ones.
